Hi y’all, it’s Penny.
I’m starting a Substack. Here are some reasons why:
Social media is a mess, but I still want to interact with my audience
I do creative writing that is intimately related to the themes of my music, and some of you might enjoy access to that writing
I like writing
I would like to be able to offer the occasional “hot take” for your consideration without busting out the ring light
Despite all the fuckery in the social media/fame/art world, I still believe in the sacred connection between the artist, the art, and the audience, and I’d like to find a healthy way to interact with that trinity
I was a philosophy student. What else am I good for if not this?
So I’m starting a Substack.
I like to think I’m a pretty good writer. I enjoy doing it, and some people in my life like to read my work (granted, sometimes that’s because it’s about them lol). But yeah. Let’s give this a shot.
I won’t promise you a consistent schedule, nuanced takes on current events, or definitive solutions to urgent questions in your life. What I can promise here on Substack is that I will not try to sell you stupid bullshit that you do not need. I can promise you a break from soulless content. I’m not going to write something that doesn’t touch my heart, that has no discernible utility, and push it towards you. I wouldn’t do that to you, not here.
So if you want a little written content from me once in a while, or if you’re just passively interested in what I might come up with, subscribe to my Substack. I’m terrible at reading so I’ll try to keep it relatively short and engaging. I do tend to over-write though, so no promises there. No pressure if you can’t stay focused for a whole article, I get it. It’s ok to just hang out.
That’s all for now. Talk soon.
